The term “printing” has a broad meaning and not everyone knows about it. You might be familiar with digital printing or offset printing, but there are at least three other types of printing related business that are popular you might want to know deeper about. This could also serve as a business idea if you want to invest your money on something profitable as printing services are highly demanded by a lot of individuals and other businesses from small to large companies.
1. Digital Printing
Digital printing is quite popular. This type of business often handles the production of banners printing, mugs printing, instant sticker printing in Singapore, even brochure and name cards printing. The advantage of digital printing is that it can supply the smallest order quantity. However, if someone needs to print in a large number, digital printing is not exactly a wise option. If one is about to make a large order, the next type of printing is likely to be more of a suitable choice.
2. Offset Printing
Offset printing is the type of printing that uses machines that are different from digital printing machines. The machines used for offset printing are more appropriate for paper materials. Offset printing works on brochures, envelopes, letterhead, books, magazines, other products that are based off paper and cartons (such as boxes and paperbags). Offset is suitable for printing orders in a large quantity, for instance, 5000 pieces or more.
3. Rotogravure
The term rotogravure is not well-known because digital printing and offset printing are far more familiar for people who require printing services. Rotogravure is the type of printing that uses machine in a large quantity and prints on plastic materials. This printing technique can be divided into two types, that is printing ink on plastic and printing ink between two layers of plastic. This means printing with at least two different types of plastic that are joined into one, for example the packaging of instant noodles.
4. Screen Printing
Screen printing is the technique of printing manually on a screen that’s given ink. The media or material that can be printed on can be of fabric, paper, or plastic. Screen printing usually serves for large orders, from thousands to ten thousand. Despite the large number of productions, the work of screen printing is commonly done manually with human labor. The technique for screen printing with fabric material is very different compared to plastic, as well as the ink and screen media. In the last few decades, screen printing technique has started to develop and uses fewer human resources, especially for screen printing with design that has more than four colors.
5. Flexo
Flexo is printing with machines that requires roll material, such as what’s used to print newspapers, corrugated cardboards (single or double wall) and sticker printing. The advantage of flexo is that it uses a cheaper ink compared to offset and saves on raw material because compared to the other type of printings, the material used for flexo is rolled into a bundle instead of using separate pieces. This results in less material waste.
